INVITATION RESIDENTS’ MEETING
MONDAY, JUNE 27th, 2016, Time: 7:30PM – 9:30PM
LOCATION: Crossroads (Founders Hall), 1295 North Service Rd., Burlington
Tyandaga Environmental Coalition (TEC) has been established to let residents know the environmental, health, and property value impact of the intended Forterra quarry expansion, that will potentially destroy many acres (estimated to be between 6,000 to 10,000 trees) of forest, commencing in the Fall of 2016.
THE PROGRESS
During the past few months, members of TEC have been busy on a number of fronts. For example, we have had Informal meetings with residents to discuss the situation and determine the level of community involvement; there has been fund raising and a membership drive; we have engaged and had meetings with the necessary experts – legal and environmental. There has also been communication and/or meetings with the City of Burlington, Forterra, and other organisations. All this and more will form the substance of the Community Meeting.
THE MEETING
There will be presentations and discussions on the project including what has been undertaken so far, the status of communications with both the City and Forterra, and the next steps. An invited guest will share his experiences in establishing a community group to deal with quarry development and how they won.
We encourage you to attend this meeting. If the deforestation starts in the fall of 2016 (as indicated) it is irreversible. THERE IS NO SECOND CHANCE!
